What should I do to prepare for a hurricane in my apartment?

The most important thing to do is make sure you have enough food and water for everyone in your apartment for at least 3-5 days.  Most apartment buildings were built to  building regulations that make them pretty safe during a huricane.  Of course you want to stay away from windows, in case they break.  Do not tape them, it just makes a mess to clean up.  Stay in the most interior room, usually a bathroom.  You can also fill up the tub with water and there is also a couple of gallons of clean water in your toilet tank.  The biggest thing is to stay calm.  Your apartment community probably has a hurricane plan and is going to work to get the community back to normal as quickly as possible.  You can check with them as to what their plan is and also your local municipality probably has a hurricane plan online too.
